Keeping track of where every kitten went, without the scramble.
Today I’m adding one of the pieces breeders have asked for most: sales records. A calm, organised way to record where each kitten went once it left for its new home.
It started with one breeder. She’s licensed by her local council - as more and more breeders are - and part of that licence is keeping a clear record of every kitten she sells and where it went. She didn’t want anything clever. She just wanted that paperwork to take less time and to trust it was all in one place. As I built it, other breeders told me what they needed too, and it grew from there.
There’s a quiet weight to keeping those records. They’re expected to be there when someone asks - a buyer coming back a year later with a question, or simply your own peace of mind when you want to look something up. Until now, that lived across message threads, texts, and the odd line in a notebook.
What sales records give you
Recording a sale in Ardent:
- Ties the sale to the kitten - name, breed, colour, microchip, and registration are pulled through from the records you already keep.
- Captures buyer and breeder details - who you are and who bought the kitten, saved as a reusable contact for next time.
- Stays accurate later - Ardent snapshots the details as they were on the day, so editing an account or kitten record next season never rewrites a finished sale.
- Is backed up for you - your records are kept safe away from your phone and backed up automatically, so a lost or broken phone never means lost records.
Once every kitten in a litter has a sale recorded, Ardent lets you know the litter is fully homed and ready to archive. One less thing to hold in your head.
Print or save a copy whenever you need one
Every sale has a clean printable version: breeder, buyer, and kitten details laid out clearly, the sale terms, and buyer and seller signature lines. Open it and print it, or save it as a PDF.
That covers the moments that matter - handing a proper record to a new owner, keeping a copy for your own files, and having something clear to show if your council, or anyone else, ever asks to see how you keep things.
Reservations, deposits, and payments
Most sales don’t start as a sale. They start as a hold, with a deposit, while everyone waits for collection day. Ardent now records that whole journey.
Reservations let you place a formal hold on a specific kitten, note a deposit (refundable or not, on your terms), and keep the kitten clearly marked as reserved. When collection day comes, you convert the reservation straight into a sale - the deposit carries across automatically, and you can record the balance in one payment or in instalments.
One thing worth being clear about: Ardent doesn’t take or process any money. It simply records the details of what was paid and when - deposits, balances, instalments - so your side of the paperwork is complete, saved safely, and backed up. Both the reservation and the finished sale have their own printable record.
It closes the loop from first deposit to final handover.
